We understand there are many reasons why you may need to surrender your dog and every case is unique with differing circumstances. Before surrendering, we ask you to consider the following;

Moving?

Have you asked your landlord if a pet bond could be paid? Can a family member, friend or boarding kennel look after your dog while you find alternative accommodation?

New baby?

It can take some time to adjust to the new changes in your home but well worth the transition. Have you sought assistance from a reputable trainer to help your dog adjust? We can recommend a few reputable trainers for you if needed.

Did you acquire your dog from a breeder or another rescue?

Reputable breeders and rescues often have a stipulation in their contract signed at the time of adoption stating that the dog must be returned to them if you ever decide you can no longer keep it. Have you checked your contract or contacted them?

Are there behavioural issues?

Often behavioural issues can be reduced or eliminated with the assistance of a reputable trainer or vet behaviourist and this should always be attempted prior to surrendering. We also recommend a thorough check up with your vet to rule out any medical problems causing the issues. We are more than happy to point owners in the right direction when it comes to reputable trainers and vet behaviourist.

If you still need to surrender you pet, it is vital that you do not leave it to the last minute as it can take some time to find a suitable foster care placement. The actual surrender can be last minute but, please, give us enough time to find a spot to squeeze them in.

Please understand that completing the surrender form does not guarantee that we will be able to accommodate or accept the dog.

Please note that a fee will apply to dogs who are surrendered to SABBR. The fee will be dependent on the vet work the dog has already undergone,the vet work that will be required, transport of the required and any additional factors. The surrender fee is at the discretion of SABBR and will be determined upon completion of the online form and whether SABBR have capacity to accept the surrender.
