Foster Care Conditions

Staffy and Bully Breed Rescue (SABBR) may terminate this agreement at any time and collect the foster dog.

The carer agrees to the following terms:

1. Staffy and Bully Breed Rescue (SABBR) may terminate this agreement at any time and collect the foster dog.

2. Dogs placed in your care by SABBR are the property of SABBR including the puppies if the foster dog is found to be pregnant and cannot be sold/given away/returned to a pound or moved/transferred to another residence without the approval of a SABBR committee member.

3. The dog you are caring for will not be released into the care of a new owner without the prior consent of a SABBR committee member, an adoption form is signed by the new owner and the adoption fee has been paid to SABBR unless otherwise approved by a SABBR committee member.

4. You agree to microchip the foster dog to SABBR with the contact details provided by SABBR at a SABBR approved veterinary practitioner at your earliest convenience. Costs will be covered by SABBR but on the condition that it was approved by a SABBR committee member.

5. You agree to have the foster dog vaccinated at a SABBR approved veterinary practitioner at your earliest convenience. Costs will be covered by SABBR but on the basis that it was approved by a SABBR committee member.

6. You agree to have the foster dog sterilized at a SABBR approved veterinary practitioner at your earliest convenience and for puppies once they reach 6 months of age. Costs will be covered by SABBR but on the basis that it was approved by a SABBR committee member.

7. Food can be provided by SABBR if requested, however, SABBR does not cover the costs of food purchased by you unless otherwise approved by a SABBR committee member.

8. Flea treatment and worm treatment can be provided by SABBR if requested, however, SABBR does not cover the costs of such items purchased by you unless otherwise approved by a SABBR committee member.

9. Items provided by SABBR for your foster dog such as enrichment toys, thunder jackets, muzzles, clam shells, beds, bowls, leads, collars, harnesses, crates, plastic E-collar and any other items provided by SABBR are the property of SABBR. These are provided to you on a loan basis while you are caring for the foster dog and should be returned to SABBR should you no longer require them or cease fostering for SABBR.

10. If the foster dog becomes ill or is injured you will contact a SABBR committee member or your dog coordinator immediately to make arrangements for the animal to be taken to a SABBR approved veterinary practitioner only unless otherwise approved by a SABBR committee member. Costs will be covered by SABBR on the basis that it was approved by a SABBR committee member.

11. If your foster dog is involved in a life threatening emergency and you take your foster dog to the closest available vet, you can apply for reimbursement to the committee on the condition that it was deemed to be an emergency by a veterinary practitioner. Reimbursement will be authorized if deemed appropriate at a vote by the committee of SABBR at the next committee meeting.

12. You acknowledge that, whilst all care is taken when placing a foster dog in your home, we cannot guarantee their health and temperament and it is your responsibility to ensure as much as reasonably possible the safety of other animals and children within your home. This includes ensuring that your current pets (where applicable) have up to date vaccinations and carefully supervising all introductions and interactions will other pets and people (including children). You also agree to not leave children under the age of 13 years unattended with foster dogs.

13. You acknowledge that, as SABBR is a foster based rescue organization, if you can no longer care for you foster dog, SABBR cannot always move the foster dog immediately and you will take due care in the meantime while alternative arrangements are made. Alternatively, if completely necessary, you can make arrangements to kennel the foster dog at your cost at an approve private boarding kennel if the private boarding kennels SABBR have access to are full.

14. You will inform us of any known behavioral issues that arise in a reasonable time period and, if instructed, contact one of SABBR’s approved behavioral trainers in a reasonable amount of time. Costs will be covered by SABBR by on the condition that it was approved by a SABBR committee member.

15. If the foster dog you are caring for is involved in an incident that causes injury or illness to another animal in the household, you will contact a SABBR committee member or your dog coordinator immediately to make arrangements for the animal to be taken to a SABBR approved veterinary practitioner only. Costs will be covered by SABBR but on the basis that it was approved by a SABBR committee member and the injuries, on the advice of a veterinary practitioner, were substantial enough to warrant a veterinary consultation and where all steps were taken to prevent injury or illness.

16. If the foster dog you are caring for is involved in an incident that causes injury or illness to another animal in the household where it is a life threatening emergency are you take the animal to the closes available vet, you can apply for reimburse to the SABBR committee on the basis that it was deemed to be an emergency by a veterinary practitioner and where all reasonable steps were taken to prevent injury or illness. Reimbursement will be authorized, if deemed appropriate, at a vote by the committee of SABBR at the next committee meeting.

17. You are aware that your foster dog may cause damage to household items and SABBR is not liable for costs incurred for damages but you can apply for reimbursement. Reimbursement will be authorized, if deemed appropriate, at a vote by the Committee of SABBR at the next committee meeting.

18. The foster dog in your care is required to wear a collar and identification tag at all times with SABBR contact details.

19. You understand that it is recommended by SABBR to not walk your foster dog including taking the foster dog to the park, the beach or any other crowed public places until your foster dog has settled into your home and has warmed to you.

20. The foster dog in your care is required to be kept on a lead at all times when outside of your property and you understand that you may be held accountable if an incident occurs with your foster dog outside of your property and it is substantiated that your foster dog was not on a lead at the time.

21. You acknowledge that SABBR recommends that you do not allow your foster dog to sniff/interact or play with any other dogs (other than dogs that have had an official meet and greet under SABBR guidance) until the foster dog has settled in your home and has warmed to you and/or is vaccinated and healthy.

22. If the foster dog in your care escapes/is missing, you will contact a SABBR committee member or your dog coordinator immediately and your local shire. Costs associated with impoundment will be covered by SABBR but on the condition that reasonable steps were taken to prevent the foster dog escaping. You can apply for reimbursement and, if deemed appropriate, reimbursement will be authorized by vote by the committee of SABBR at the next committee meeting.

23. You will provide the foster dog/s placed in your care with adequate food, water, shelter, exercise, care and medical treatment (when required).

24. You understand that basic training will be required with your foster dog and that it is expected that you will start with basic manners such as sit, stay, come and house toilet training.

25. You will not change the name of the foster dog unless you have had approval from a SABBR committee member.

26. When potential adopters contact SABBR, your name, suburb and number can be provided to the potential adopter so they can make contact with you to arrange a time to meet the dog.

27. You will make yourself available to potential adopters within a reasonable amount of time to arrange a meet and greet.

28. You will forward all vet paperwork to SABBR via email as soon as the vet work is completed. Adoption paperwork must be sent to SABBR via email prior to the dogs adoption trial being completed. The adoption fee must be deposited into the SABBR bank account within 5 days of the adoption paperwork being signed. All money and paperwork related to your foster dog is the property of SABBR.

29. You agree to forward all donations received on behalf of SABBR to SABBR.

30. You will inform SABBR of any changes to persons or animal living at the residential address on this form.

31. You will not foster an animal for another rescue organization while you have a SABBR foster dog in your care unless otherwise discussed and approved by a SABBR committee member.

32. You will keep the foster dog at the residential address of this form and you will information SABBR of any change of address or contact details prior to the change or once known.

33. You agree to our code of conduct.

34. You are the age of 18 years, have read everything and understand your obligations of being a SABBR foster carer as per the above requirements.
